Quick check (2 minutes)
- Open Settings → Tools and confirm your selected media player path looks correct.
- If you use Stream or Convert, confirm FFmpeg is installed and discovered (Tools page).
- If you use VLC as your player, install the VLC AviSynth plugin: VLC - AviSynth Plugin configuration.
- If anything is missing, use the fixes below.
Settings → Tools (what to verify)
Most setup issues come down to tools/dependencies (players, codec packs, FFmpeg, plugins) not being installed or not being discovered correctly.
- Media player: choose MPC-HC, PotPlayer, VLC, or Custom. The path must point to the correct
.exe. - FFmpeg (Stream/Convert): required for network streaming and file conversion. If it’s missing, re-run the installer/tools setup for your store edition.
- Libraries (optional): these improve scene/motion detection quality. If missing, Stream to 3D still runs, but conversion quality may be reduced.
Steam: re-install optional tools
If you purchased via Steam and tools/players are missing, the fastest fix is to run the optional tools installer that ships with Stream to 3D:
StreamTo3DToolsOptionalSetup.cmd
Typical location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stream to 3D
You can also see the more detailed Steam tools re-install notes in Settings → Re-install Steam tools.
VLC: AviSynth plugin
VLC needs an AviSynth plugin to open .avs scripts. Follow: VLC - AviSynth Plugin configuration.
If you use MPC-HC or PotPlayer, you do not need the VLC plugin.
FFmpeg and GPU encoding
- If you see a GPU encoding error or Stream to 3D tells you to update your graphics driver, update your NVIDIA/AMD driver first.
- For advanced encoding settings, see FFmpeg options for streaming and conversion.
Codec packs and players
Codec and player availability affects what files can be opened and converted. See Hardware and Software Requirements for the recommended baseline.
Third‑party tools have their own licences and are not authored by Stream to 3D.
